Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Energy Materials

Our breakthrough solar cell materials, which have been proven within night vision systems for years, will be initially applied to concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) systems with dramatically reduced price points. This will enable solar-based electricity generation at prices equal to and even lower than current grid-supplied power from nonrenewable sources.
By leveraging near-term infrared materials revenue and proven manufacturing technologies, Sunovia intends to accelerate the development of new solar materials that will rival the most efficient multijunction solar cell performance in existence today at significantly lower costs. We will accomplish this by uniquely combining the most prevalent photovoltaic semiconductors in the market today, cadmium telluride (CdTe) and silicon. The enabling high-throughput manufacturing technologies for growing CdTe on silicon have been proven by our team over the past decade in the development and production of night vision sensor materials. Our work in the growth of CdTe on Si sensors has helped the U.S. military “Own the Night.” Now, we are using these same processes and skills to accelerate the development of our next generation, multi-junction solar cell materials-which will bring us “from owning the night to owning the daylight.”
